The internal working documents were ignored here — correctly, this repo is headed for mainline — but that left them versioned nowhere. They now live in .private/, a nested git repo with no remote, and stay in place in the tree as relative symlinks. Their names are already in the ignore list above, so nothing about this repo's contents changes.
